Terminology
- Node: A device that implements IP
- Router: a node that forwards IP packets not explicitly addressed to itself.
- Host: Any node that is not a Router
IPv6 Configuration methods
It is possible to configure IPv6 addresses on interfaces in four different ways:
- IPv6 Stateless Autoconfiguration of Interface
- IPv6 manual configuration of Interface
- DHCPv6 configuration of Interface
- A combination of IPv6 Stateless Autoconfiguration and DHCPv6 described in DHCPv6 Other Options
